Qualify Leads in CRM


Select CRM module in Odoo

Click Leads from menu at top


Start at bottom of list and determine if job is worth bidding by asking these questions:

Source of inquiry? From our website or someone we have worked with previously? If so, review details and respond. If a company we are unfamiliar with… review skeptically.

Location of work? Is the job down the street or out of state? Highly unlikely that we will mobilize for work more than 20 miles away from the shop. No work in Arkansas due to contractor laws in that state.

Nature of work? Straight forward cabinetry and trim or is design complex, using materials we typically do not work with? 

Quality of drawings and information? More likely to work successfully with good drawings and clear instructions.

Timeframe? A rush job by an unfamiliar customer is unlikely, but a rush job with a customer with a long and positive history is probable.

Stakeholders? Consider the quality of the team involved in this job. Is a contractor leading the project or a homeowner with high expectations? Interior designer who will provide good direction or one that will complicate things?


Discuss Leads with other Project Managers. They may see things you miss.

For Leads we want to pass on, respond with this language…


“Old City will be unable to provide a bid for this project, but we do appreciate you contacting us.”


Some items in the Lead may be junk and not worth responding at all. Simply delete them.


For Leads we would like to pursue, click Convert to Opportunity button

In next screen, choose Salesperson

Create New Customer of Link to Existing Customer

It is also possible to not create a customer which is the best option if we suspect our proposal will not be approved.


Review and Edit Information

Click the Edit button and choose best name for this Opportunity

Enter a guesstimate of the revenue we might expect and the probability of winning

Check remaining fields for accurate contact information.

Lastly, enter an Expected Closing date for when we might know if we won or lost the bid.

Click Save


Return to list of Leads and qualify remaining items.
